Title: Joan of Arc
dimensions: 10 x 8 x 3 in.
year: 2005

Materials: Optical glass, bronze, granite, silver nitrate patina;

Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in an England for heresy. It is said she wore men's clothing to prevent being raped by the prison guards.

This piece evokes the impenetrable nature of the heavy granite floor, the thick bars and Joan herself. On closer inspection it is evident that Joan is in front and above the bars. She is free now.

This piece also uses the refractive properties of glass to show the many complex facets of Joan of Arc.
